Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest and unbiased review.
This is going to be yet another book which is a thriller and because of that I don’t really want to say much about the plot, sorry! This is a domestic thriller and the main reason I only gave it four stars instead of five was because it just seemed to be missing that ‘something’. I’m not going to lie, I was hooked, and I wanted to know what happened but there isn’t much action in this. Yes, there’s a big reveal but once that was revealed there didn’t seem to be much else and I did feel like the ending was just a bit, meh.
Part of what makes this book amazing was the way that the first part of the book is told before the big reveal. I’m not going to lie, it did take me a while to get in to, but it built up the suspense well and you knew something was going to come and happen you were just waiting for what it was. I honestly didn’t see the twist coming and that is entirely due to the writing; you learn a lot in the first part of the book but very cleverly, not really enough to see what’s coming.
Vanessa is an unreliable narrator so be warned if that’s something that you dislike! I’d also warn against going into this book thinking you know what’s going to happen because you won’t; this is definitely one of those thrillers that you need to go in with an open mind and no pre-conceptions! This has so many subtle little twists that all add up to create the overall plot and it is very clever writing. I did get a bit fed up later on in the book, but I think that may have been my impatience to want to see what was going to happen and not reading quick enough!
I don’t want to say anything except that I can understand why this book is hyped and this is a great twisty, domestic thriller, so if that’s what you’re looking for then pick this up! This is set to release January 09th 2018 in kindle and February 8th 2018 in Hardcover and you can pre-order it from Amazon UK
