You Were Made For This – Michelle Sacks Review

You were made for this

Thank you to HQ books for providing me with an ARC, as always, all opinions are hones and my own!

I feel like this book will definitely elicit a lot of different opinions from people as it is full of unlikeable characters. This is a multi-POV book which follows Merry and Sam who have recently moved from New York to Sweden to start afresh. They were left a lovely house which they’ve done up and are happily married with a new baby boy in the family, but not everything is as it seems. We also get the POV of Frank who is Merry’s childhood friend. They’ve always had an interesting relationship as things were complicated in their childhood and Frank starts to see that the perfect life Merry is living may not be so perfect after all.

I don’t think I liked any of the characters in this book which is pretty impressive! I did think that in a way though, this did ultimately lead to me not enjoying this as much – I’ve read and enjoyed other books with unlikable characters, but I think the combination of the plot and the characters just fell a bit flat for me.

It’s difficult to say a lot about this book because it’s all wrapped up in the main plot and I don’t want to give anything away. I did feel intrigued and wanted to find out what was happening and going on, but I was just left feeling so underwhelmed by it all. Yes, I was intrigued; this had a bit of everything included in it, betrayal, jealousy, lies and secrets which kept you reading and it was fast paced but it all just fell a bit flat. I was annoyed at the ending also, it was so open-ended and there wasn’t really a proper conclusion to the end of the story.

This is just another mediocre thriller in my opinion but when you read as many thrillers as I do, then it starts to take something special to make it highly rated. If you like thrillers which have extremely dislikable characters then this could definitely be one for you as the only character I actually liked in here was probably the baby, which is saying something!
